Major news outlets sue Trump administration over White House press ban

CNN, MS NOW, and Politico filed a federal lawsuit in Washington against the Donald Trump administration challenging the revocation of their journalists' White House press credentials. The media organizations argue that the abrupt access ban violates press freedom protections guaranteed under the First Amendment of the US Constitution and seek an immediate injunction restoring workspace entry.

Defending the move prompted by allegations of biased reporting, the administration asserted that press room access is a privilege rather than a constitutional right, with Vice President J.D. Vance stating the outlets will no longer be afforded dedicated workspace inside the executive mansion.

The ban disrupted regular broadcast pooling arrangements after ABC, CBS, NBC, and Fox News declined to replace CNN in scheduled pool rotations, while plaintiffs warned the restrictions impair independent public oversight of government actions.
