Prosecutor General’s Office says religious marriages involving minors carry legal liability
Religious marriage ceremonies involving minors are subject to legal liability in Azerbaijan, the Prosecutor General’s Office has said.Aynur Osmanova, head of the office’s Legal Support and Human Rights Department, said during an Instagram live broadcast that the provision allowing the legal marriage age to be lowered by one year had been abolished and that the minimum marriage age for both men and women is now 18.
She stressed that conducting a religious marriage ceremony does not exempt those involved from legal responsibility.
“The Code of Administrative Offences provides for fines for conducting religious marriages involving minors. Such actions carry legal liability,” Osmanova said.
