Sevil Aliyeva says she has been living in Baku since 2017
Sevil Aliyeva, the daughter of Azerbaijan’s late national leader Heydar Aliyev and elder sister of current President Ilham Aliyev, said she has been living in Baku since 2017 after spending many years abroad.
Aliyeva, a composer and recipient of Azerbaijan’s prestigious "Shohrat" (Glory) Order, made the statement in a post on social media addressing her followers.
"Due to my long stay abroad, many people still assume I live outside Azerbaijan. I would like to clarify that I have been living in Baku, at my family home, since 2017," Aliyeva said, thanking her supporters for their continued warm wishes.
Aliyeva moved to London in the late 1990s and has largely maintained a low public profile in recent decades.
