Former presidential protection officer sentenced for 320,000 AZN fraud
The Baku Military Court has convicted a retired officer of the Special State Protection Service for large-scale fraud, handing down a two-year prison sentence.
Judicial findings established that between 2021 and 2023, the defendant fraudulently obtained approximately 320,000 AZN from eight individuals. He made false promises regarding employment assistance within the Presidential Security Service and the State Customs Committee, apartment acquisitions, pension restorations, and high-yield food import schemes. The defendant cited personal debts as the reason for the misappropriation.
Taking into account full restitution of financial damages, victim reconciliations, mitigating family factors, and prior state honors, the court applied Article 62 of the Criminal Code to deliver a sentence below the mandatory minimum. Factoring in 11 months already served in pre-trial custody and house arrest, the convict will serve a remaining term of one year and one month in a general-regime facility.
