Aliyev congratulates Burnham on appointment as UK prime minister

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev congratulated Andy Burnham on his appointment as British prime minister, the president’s press service said on Tuesday.

Aliyev said Azerbaijan attached particular importance to the comprehensive development of relations with Britain, citing the growth of economic and trade cooperation and the deepening of the two countries’ strategic energy partnership.

He highlighted Azerbaijan’s long-standing cooperation with British energy company BP in conventional and renewable energy, as well as the involvement of British companies in reconstruction projects in territories retaken by Azerbaijan.

Aliyev expressed confidence that relations between the two countries would continue to develop and their partnership would be strengthened.

Burnham was appointed British prime minister on July 20, succeeding Keir Starmer.
