Solar panels with a combined capacity of more than 8,000 kilowatts have been installed at over 2,500 private homes, public and social buildings in Azerbaijan’s liberated territories, the Energy Ministry said.

More than 8,000 LED lighting units have also been installed, with about 43%, or nearly 3,500 units, operating through hybrid solar-powered systems.

Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov said Karabakh and East Zangezur were being developed in line with green technology and energy-efficiency principles.

The ministry said electricity demand in the territories was fully covered by green energy, while surplus power was supplied to the country’s national grid.

Solar power plants are being built in Jabrayil, while four small hydropower plants are under construction in the Kalbajar and Lachin districts. Measurements are also under way in Kalbajar as part of preparations for a wind power project.
