Russian President Vladimir Putin’s decision to scrap the planned South Stream natural gas pipeline to the European Union emphasizes the importance of the Trans-Anatolian (Tanap) and Trans-Adriatic (TAP) pipelines, Germany’s Economy Ministry said.
The ministry said Germany’s gas supply is secure and would not be affected if the South Stream project is not carried out.
Tanap is being built by a group of companies led by Azerbaijan’s state energy company Socar, which holds 58 percent of the project. Partners also include BP with 12 percent and Turkey’s state pipeline company Botas.
The pipeline will deliver 6 billion cubic meters of Shah Deniz gas to Turkey and 10 billion cubic meters to Europe. Construction is due to be completed in 2018.
