United boss gives trial to lad who BEGGED for a chance

United boss gives trial to lad who BEGGED for a chance

The keen youngster held a sign pleading: "Give me just one chance”.

His determination was rewarded when the kindhearted Dutch boss gave him a shot with the reserves.

But the player – who had once been signed with Fulham – failed to shine and his dreams of appearing for United were shattered.

A club insider said: "The kid was out in all weathers and would be there every day without fail. We thought he was just being a nuisance, to be honest.

"He said he had been on Fulham’s books at one stage and brought his CV with him. The gaffer was impressed with the lengths he had gone to and personally intervened.”

He was given a one-to-one trial with reserve team boss Warren Joyce but United decided not to take their interest any further.

Before van Gaal stepped in the Red Devils were all set to call security because the teenager would wait outside their Carrington HQ from 7am until 6pm each day.

The Old Trafford boss may have been hoping to unearth a star to help his faltering side find some form this season.

Although the team is fourth in the Premier League he has been under fire for a string of poor performances despite spending £250million on players.

Reports last week suggested van Gaal faced a dressing room revolt among his highly-paid stars.

Defeat at Premier League rookies Bournemouth last weekend made it five games without a win in all competitions and followed a shock Champions League exit at the group stage.

Pressure continues to mount with several high-profile former players calling van Gaal’s job into question.

The United source added: "If the lad’s talent had matched his desire, we could’ve done with him right now.

"United wished him well and it showed a side of the manager not many get to see.”
