Manchester City player gets paid £350,000 a year to do nothing

The 38-year-old former England star has sat on the sidelines since signing from Ipswich Town back in 2012.

It is 50 months since he last appeared in a competitive match – and that game, Ipswich’s 3-2 home defeat by Reading, was the only one he played that season.

But Wright is still paid a whopping £7,000 a week at Manchester City and even gets a bonus whenever he travels with manager Manuel Pellegrini’s squad to matches.

One fan joked: "No wonder he is smiling all the time then.”

And another added: "Wasted career. I’d rather play every week at a lower league team than wake up every day knowing you ain’t gonna play ever.”

Wright, who played twice for his country, was bought by Arsenal from Ipswich for £6million in 2001.

But he only lasted 12 months at the Gunners before being snapped up by Everton for £3.5m.

He then suffered a string of injuries, including one when he fell out of his loft, and eventually moved back to Ipswich.

He played 58 games for them between 2008 and 2010 but has made just three competitive appearances since the 2009-10 season.
