Bulgaria defeated Azerbaijan 2:1 in a 2016 UEFA Euro League Group H match in Baku on Tuesday.

The visitors opened the score 14 minutes into the match when Ilijan Micanski found the corner from inside the box.

The hosts drew level in the 53rd minute when Dimitrij Nazarov surprised the Bulgarian goalkeeper Vladislav Stoyanov, smashing the ball home from around 30 metres.

With just three minutes of the game remaining, Ventsislav Hristov secured Bulgaria’s victory when he headed in from a corner.

This was just the second time the two sides have played each other and the first competitive match between the two. Neither of them have scored against each other. In the friendly back in 2004, the game ended in a 0-0 draw.

Besides Azerbaijan and Bulgaria, Group H comprises Croatia, Italy, Malta and Norway.

Next month, Azerbaijan faces Italy and then Croatia.  In November, Azerbaijan takes on Norway. They return to the field in March with one key game against Malta.

Bulgaria also has two games in October, facing Norway and Croatia. Then in November Bulgaria takes on Malta. They take a break and return in March to battle Italy.
