FIFA president: Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan to unite Europe and Asia through football
03.10.2025 10:30

FIFA president Gianni Infantino said the 2027 Under-20 World Cup will be hosted jointly by Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan, marking the first time the tournament is staged in two countries from different continents.

“Congratulations to Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan, two wonderful nations where people truly love football,” Infantino said. “Two great federations and two fantastic governments are fully backing the hosting of the World Cup in their countries.”

He noted that Azerbaijan had previously hosted the U-17 Women’s World Cup, while Uzbekistan staged the Futsal World Cup last year.

“This will be the first U-20 World Cup organized by two countries from two continents — Europe and Asia. Football will unite them, and the tournament will help develop the game on both continents,” Infantino added.
