Vance says U.S. has achieved objectives in Iran, signals shift to diplomacy
U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance said Washington believes it has achieved its military objectives in Iran and is ready to move toward winding down the conflict.
“I do think we are in a place where our objectives have been achieved. We can begin to wind this down,” Vance said in an interview with Fox News.
He said he would prefer to end the conflict through “successful negotiations,” adding that talks with Iran in Islamabad had made “significant progress.”
Vance also raised concerns over Iran’s nuclear programme, saying the United States wants nuclear material removed from Iran and placed under U.S. control, and to ensure Tehran has no capability to enrich uranium.
