Pashinyan says post-peace treaty ties with Azerbaijan will require further agreements

Pashinyan says post-peace treaty ties with Azerbaijan will require further agreements

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said on Tuesday that signing and ratifying a peace agreement with Azerbaijan would not complete the normalisation process, because the two sides would still need additional agreements, including on sectoral cooperation.

Speaking after the Armenia-EU summit in Yerevan alongside European Council President Antonio Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, Pashinyan said transport links were a key area for future cooperation. He said Armenia and Azerbaijan were already cooperating in transport without a separate agreement and should fully open roads to each other, including the Armenia-Turkey border.

Pashinyan said the full unblocking of communications was essential for the free movement of people and goods and for trade development, adding that such cooperation should be based on unhindered transport links with full respect for territorial integrity and sovereignty.

He also said peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan had effectively been established and that the two countries were learning how to live under peaceful conditions after decades of conflict.
