U.S. sought to remove Iran’s uranium stockpile in 2025
The United States last year considered removing Iran’s stockpile of highly enriched uranium, viewing the issue as central to efforts to curb Tehran’s nuclear programme.
Western media reported that President Donald Trump’s administration discussed several options, including a possible special forces operation to seize and extract Iran’s highly enriched uranium reserves.
Reuters previously reported, citing sources, that U.S. intelligence assessments viewed the destruction or removal of Iran’s highly enriched uranium stockpile as one of the key conditions for significantly limiting Tehran’s nuclear capabilities.
According to the International Atomic Energy Agency, Iran possesses hundreds of kilograms of uranium enriched to 60% purity, close to the 90% level considered weapons-grade.
