Turkish President sends message to participants of Baku Energy Week

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has sent a letter to the participants of Baku Energy Week, Turkish media reports.

Erdogan's message was delivered by Türkiye's Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar.

Erdogan stated that developments in the region once again demonstrate how correct and far-sighted the steps taken with Azerbaijan in the energy sector have been. He noted that a number of mega-projects once considered a dream for the region have been successfully implemented together with Azerbaijan and that cooperation in this direction continues.

The Turkish President particularly highlighted the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan, Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum and TANAP pipeline projects launched with Azerbaijan and implemented with the support of friendly Georgia. He also noted that cooperation within the Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli and Shah Deniz projects has deepened further.

Erdogan said that the new partnership between Türkiye and Azerbaijan on the Shafag-Asiman field is another proof that cooperation between the two countries continues uninterrupted.

“The Ighdir-Nakhchivan gas pipeline, commissioned last year, has further strengthened the security of Nakhchivan's energy supply. Electricity interconnections between Türkiye and Azerbaijan continue to have strategic importance. We hope that the implementation of the Green Electricity Transmission and Trade project between Türkiye, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Bulgaria will make a significant contribution to our region's energy security,” the message said.

The Turkish President added that the launch of gas supplies to Syria last August as a result of the joint initiative of Türkiye and Azerbaijan makes an important contribution to the development of that country and regional security.

“There are great opportunities to expand our cooperation in the export of Turkmen gas through Azerbaijan and Türkiye. At the same time, we observe increased use of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline for transporting Kazakhstan's natural resources to Western markets,” Erdogan stressed.

Erdogan noted that Türkiye has a vision based on the principles of efficiency and respect for the environment in all areas of the energy sector, including renewable and green energy.

“We will further strengthen our determination to be one of the leading and exemplary countries in global climate action with the COP31 Summit, which we will host in Antalya on November 9–20 this year. With these thoughts, I wish Baku Energy Week to be beneficial for our countries and our region,” the Turkish President concluded his message.
