U.S. senators introduce bill on Ukraine aid and Russia sanctions
A bipartisan group of U.S. senators has introduced legislation that would provide additional assistance to Ukraine and impose tougher sanctions on Russia, including measures targeting countries that continue buying Russian energy.
The bill, backed by Republican Senator Lindsey Graham and Democratic Senator Richard Blumenthal, also предусматривает secondary sanctions and tariffs on imports from countries purchasing Russian oil, gas and uranium.
Supporters of the initiative say the measures are intended to increase pressure on Moscow and strengthen Washington’s leverage in efforts to end the war in Ukraine.
The legislation must be approved by both chambers of Congress before it can be sent to the U.S. president for signature.
