Russian gas flows to Europe via TurkStream rise 5.6%

Russian pipeline gas supplies to Europe via the TurkStream pipeline have risen by 5.6% since the start of 2026 compared with the same period last year, reaching 7.9 billion cubic metres, according to ENTSOG data cited by Russian media.

On June 16, flows through the Strandzha-2/Malkoclar metering station on the Turkish-Bulgarian border stood at 45.5 million cubic metres. Transport volumes for June 17 were forecast at 44.6 million cubic metres.

TurkStream is currently the only route for Russian pipeline gas exports to Europe. Transit through Ukraine stopped after the expiry of the relevant contract at the start of 2025, while the Yamal-Europe pipeline has been unavailable to Gazprom since 2022 and Nord Stream remains out of operation following explosions in the Baltic Sea.

European underground gas storage facilities are 45% full, with more than 48 billion cubic metres of gas in storage, according to Gas Infrastructure Europe.

European gas prices remain elevated, with July futures at the Dutch TTF hub trading above $700 per 1,000 cubic metres on June 17.

The market is also under pressure from strikes by oil and gas workers in Norway and disruptions at some LNG projects, raising concerns about supply stability.
