Meloni last leader to arrive at NATO summit dinner in Ankara
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni was the last leader to arrive at an official dinner hosted at the Presidential Complex in Ankara as part of the NATO heads of state and government summit.
Meloni was welcomed at the complex by Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz. The Italian prime minister attended the event wearing a black suit and a large necklace.
The dinner, hosted by Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan, was attended by leaders of NATO member states. The leaders arrived at the Presidential Complex one by one, with Meloni’s motorcade arriving last.
Meloni was welcomed with an official ceremony, during which the Mehter band performed.
Her participation in the summit drew additional attention amid recent discussions about her relationship with U.S. President Donald Trump. International media had earlier discussed Trump’s remarks and social media posts concerning the Italian prime minister.
The NATO summit in Ankara is expected to focus on defence spending, the alliance’s deterrence policy, support for Ukraine and European security. Bilateral meetings between leaders are also planned on the sidelines.
