Macron gesture toward Emine Erdogan draws attention at NATO summit

A gesture by French President Emmanuel Macron during an official dinner in Ankara as part of the NATO summit drew attention in Turkish media.

Macron, who attended the dinner held in honour of NATO leaders and their spouses, was welcomed by Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan and first lady Emine Erdogan.

During the greeting, the French president appeared to try to kiss Emine Erdogan’s hand, but Turkey’s first lady did not allow the gesture.

The dinner was held as part of the NATO heads of state and government summit in Ankara.
