A modern international airport within Azerbaijan’s Alat Free Economic Zone is expected to become operational by the middle of 2027, Economy Minister Mikayil Jabbarov said.

He said the free economic zone was the flagship of Azerbaijan’s industrial development policy and was designed primarily for export-oriented manufacturing and access to regional and international markets.

Located around 50–55 kilometres from Baku, the zone is expected to serve as a major logistics hub linking Central Asia and China with the Black Sea region, Türkiye and Europe.

Jabbarov said Azerbaijan applied a “plug-and-play” model in its industrial zones, providing ready infrastructure for investors seeking to establish production facilities.
