Trump says damage to merchant ships will be paid for with Iranian funds

U.S. President Donald Trump said on Thursday that any damage to merchant ships, cargo or related property would be paid for using Iranian funds under U.S. control.

“Any and all damages done to ships, cargo, or anything related thereto, will be paid for by Iranian money that the United States has in its possession and controls,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

The statement came amid escalating hostilities between the United States and Iran following attacks by Iran-backed Houthi forces on commercial shipping in the Red Sea and growing concerns over maritime security.
