Trump expects Iran deal as economic pressure mounts

U.S. President Donald Trump said Iran’s economic situation was deteriorating and that Washington and Tehran would eventually reach an agreement.

“We’re doing it quietly,” Trump told Axios when asked about the next U.S. steps toward Iran.

Trump said Washington was engaged in limited talks with Tehran, while Iran was facing high inflation and a shortage of financial resources.

He described Iran as being in a “very difficult economic situation” and said the U.S.-imposed maritime blockade was among the factors contributing to the pressure.

“All of this will work. Everything always works. It’s like a chess game,” Trump said, referring to the prospects for an agreement with Iran.
