Istanbul to build first Bosphorus-coastal metro line on Asian side
19.08.2026 13:00

For the first time, Istanbul will construct a subway line running directly along the shoreline of the Bosphorus Strait on the city's Asian side, Turkish Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu announced.

The 17.5-kilometer "Ümraniye – Kavacık – Beykoz" line will comprise 14 stations, providing high-capacity rail connectivity to densely populated districts currently reliant solely on bus transit. In a city first, three stations along the route will be situated directly on the Bosphorus waterfront. The alignment is engineered to integrate with the operational automated M5 line, the under-construction M14 route, and coastal ferry terminals.
