Moscow Warns Armenia of Economic Preference Loss over EU Drive
Armenia's potential accession to the European Union remains Yerevan’s sovereign prerogative, and Russia is not engaged in bilateral consultations on the matter, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk said at the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF).
Responding to media inquiries, Overchuk noted that Yerevan is free to determine its foreign policy course, while stressing that Moscow reserves the right to reconsider economic and trade preferences extended to Armenia. He emphasized that Russia will independently resolve issues concerning the economic benefits Armenia stands to forfeit should it pursue closer integration with the EU.
