President Ilham Aliyev inaugurates 100 MW Gobustan Solar Power Plant
President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev attended the official inauguration of the 100 MW Gobustan Solar Power Plant in the Garadagh district of Baku on September 16. The head of state was welcomed by Minister of Energy Parviz Shahbazov, Chinese Ambassador to Azerbaijan Lu Mei, and Yi Nan, Chief Executive Officer of Universal International Holdings Limited.
Spanning 300.77 hectares in the Pirsaat settlement, the facility represents Azerbaijan’s first renewable energy project awarded via a competitive auction process, executed by Shanghai-based Universal Energy.
The facility is projected to generate roughly 200 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, conserving 45 million cubic meters of natural gas and preventing 97,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions. With Gobustan operational, Azerbaijan's total renewable energy capacity expands to 2,170 MW across 85 plants, accounting for approximately 20.8% of aggregate generation capacity.
The government targets bringing an additional 1.5 GW of renewable capacity online by the end of 2027.
