Lawmaker proposes annual discounted flight quota on AZAL

Azerbaijani lawmaker Nagif Hamzayev has proposed granting Azerbaijani citizens the right to purchase discounted Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) tickets at least once a year. Addressing parliament, Hamzayev welcomed the flag carrier’s transition to operational profitability, attributing the revenue growth largely to foreign travelers utilizing Baku as a transit hub amid regional conflicts.

However, he noted that foreigners booking seats well in advance leave local citizens struggling to secure reduced-fare tickets, effectively curbing their ability to holiday abroad. Calling for student ticket discounts to be broadened to the general public, the lawmaker urged AZAL to recognize an annual quota allowing each citizen one discounted flight during their annual leave.
