Azerbaijan returns remains of 273 identified missing persons to families
Azerbaijan has returned the remains of 273 citizens who went missing during the First Karabakh War to their families for burial, Ali Nagiyev, head of the State Commission on Prisoners of War, Hostages and Missing Persons, said.
At the end of June, the remains of 226 people had been returned to their families, meaning the number has since increased by 47.
Nagiyev said forensic molecular genetic examinations had identified a total of 328 people who went missing during the First Karabakh War.
Of the 273 people whose remains have been returned to their families, 225 were military personnel and 48 were civilians. The civilians included 15 women and two minors.
Efforts to locate missing persons and identify recovered remains are continuing.
A total of 4,010 people are registered as missing in Azerbaijan as a result of the Karabakh conflict.
