Azerbaijan will send five athletes to compete at this year's Winter Olympics in Russia's Sochi, the country's National Olympic Committee said.

The Azerbaijani team features figure skating duo Alexei Sitnikov and Julia Zlobina, and alpine skiers Patrick Brahner, Cedric Notz and Gaia Bassani Antivari.

"Azerbaijan is not known for the winter sports, and we can not wait much success from the Azerbaijani athletes in Sochi," said Kenul Nurullayeva, Azerbaijani delegation to the opening ceremonies of the Sochi Winter Olympics.

"The main goal is the participation of Azerbaijan in this prestigious event," she added.

The 2014 Winter Olympics are scheduled to take place from Feb. 7 to 23 in Sochi, Russia.
