President Aliyev intervenes to prevent fuel price rise
President Ilham Aliyev ordered the country’s Tariff Council to revoke its January 12 decision to increase the prices of diesel and gasoline, state news agency Azartac said.
The council decided to keep the previous prices after increasing them by 2 qapiks (2.5 cents) a liter.
The retail prices of the 92-octane gasoline and diesel are now 0.7 manat and 0.6 manat respectively.
No reason was given for the president’s intervention.
Many Azerbaijanis, using Facebook and other social networking websites, said they were upset by the price rise while crude prices are plummeting.
