15 useful tricks you probably didn't know your iPhone could do
You'll no longer have to go to the Genius bar to learn everything your iPhone has to offer.
Beyond all the apps and basic features iPhones have several hidden settings and modifications that not everyone knows exist. The New York Daily News compiled a list of helpful tricks that can help you save battery life, create shortcuts and hide photos and your location.
Here are 15 iPhone tricks you probably didn't know your iPhone could do:
Undo Type — If you are typing a message to someone and you don't want to press the backspace key until you've deleted every single letter, you can just shake your phone and it will delete the whole message. If you want to redo typing then all you have to do is shake again.
Auto Location Detection — Smartphones are very good at giving away your location. You can turn off your auto location by going into Settings >Privacy >Location Services and control what apps you want to authorize to share your location. Otherwise, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and every other app will disclose your whereabouts.
Hey Siri — If you're fond of using Siri then this feature will help you command Siri by simply saying, "Hey Siri" when the phone is plugged into a power source. You'll no longer have to press and hold the home button to bring up the automated voice. It's a great feature to use when driving. To enable go into Settings >General >Siri > then turn on Allow "Hey Siri."
Grayscale Mode — If your battery is running low you might want to consider changing your display settings to grayscale. Or if you want your phone screen to look cool just invert the colors. To change the display go to Settings >General >Accessibility >then turn on Grayscale or Invert Colors.
Faster Battery Charge — If you want to charge your phone twice as fast, then simply put it in Airplane Mode. Go to Settings >and turn on Airplane Mode.
Calculator Swipe — If you ever type an extra number into your calculator you no longer have to clear the whole equation, you can just swipe from left to right (or right to left) and the last number inserted will be deleted.
Website Shortcuts — If you visit a website often that doesn't already have an app you can make it into a homepage shortcut by going into Safari and accessing the menu. Once in the menu, press Add to Home Screen and the shortcut will appear on your home screen as an app icon.
Level Gauge — Many people don't know that iOS 8 came with a level gauge and that's because it's hidden in the compass app that no one uses. You can now know if you are hanging up a picture frame correctly or if the window frame is slanted. To access the level gauge go into your compass app and swipe right.
Self-destructive Messages — The new iOS allows users to send instant voice messages, video and photo that self-destructs after the recipient has opened them. To send one you simply press and hold the microphone or the camera on either side of the message box. Once you are done recording your message you let go of the icon and the message will send. Be careful with accidentally sending a selfie, though.
