Azeri immigrants leaving Russia due to economic crisis

As many as 28,196 Azerbaijani immigrants left Russia in the second half of 2014, according to the Russian Migration Service.

That compares with 16,461 Azerbaijani nationals who moved out in the first half of the year, the service said.

The outflow of Azerbaijani immigrants was prompted by the economic crisis that hit the country.

Ruble lost by more than 60 percent as oil prices plummeted and the US and EU imposed sanctions on Russia because of its support for separatists in Ukraine.

By comparison, the number of Armenian immigrants in Russia grew by 44,300 people last year.
