Trump announces launch of “Project Freedom” operation in Strait of Hormuz

U.S. President Donald Trump said Washington would launch “Project Freedom” to assist commercial vessels blocked in the Strait of Hormuz.

Trump said the operation would begin on May 4 and would be humanitarian in nature. He said many vessels were running short of food and essential supplies for their crews.

Trump described the effort to move the stranded ships as a gesture of goodwill, but warned that the United States would respond with force if the operation was obstructed.
