Zelenskyy says support for Ukraine’s NATO membership is growing
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the number of voices inside NATO openly supporting Ukraine’s membership in the alliance had increased, European Pravda reported, citing his online meeting with media.
Zelenskyy was asked whether there had been any progress on Ukraine’s NATO membership during the alliance’s summit in Ankara.
“I think the number of voices that openly want to see Ukraine in NATO has increased,” Zelenskyy said.
He said the shift was linked to the level of Ukraine’s defence industry and the capabilities of its army.
Zelenskyy said NATO recognised that the alliance’s defence capability would be stronger with Ukraine.
NATO’s official position is that Ukraine’s future is in the alliance, but an invitation to join can be extended only when allies agree and conditions are met.
