Kyrgyzstan temporarily bans exports of petroleum products

Kyrgyzstan has imposed a temporary ban on the export of crude oil and petroleum products by road and rail in an effort to protect domestic fuel supplies and strengthen the country's energy security.

Under a resolution adopted by the Cabinet of Ministers on Monday, the restrictions will remain in force until the domestic market is sufficiently supplied or a common oil and petroleum products market is established within the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).

The ban applies to crude oil and petroleum products exported by road and rail. However, it exempts naphtha, fuel oil and heating fuel shipped abroad for processing, provided the refined products are subsequently reimported into Kyrgyzstan.

The restrictions also do not apply to fuel contained in the standard tanks of vehicles leaving the country.

The government has instructed the State Customs Service and the State Border Service to prevent the illegal export of oil and petroleum products.
