Kurtulmuş says Azerbaijan’s OIC parliamentary chairmanship important for Türkiye
The transfer of the chairmanship of the Parliamentary Union of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to Azerbaijan is of great importance for Türkiye, Turkish Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmus said in Baku.
“The transfer of the chairmanship of the OIC Parliamentary Union conference to Azerbaijan is extremely important for us,” Kurtulmus told reporters.
He said the conference in Baku came at a time of major global changes and increasing geopolitical tensions.
“A unipolar world order is no longer possible. A new era is beginning and it would be more accurate to speak about a multi-centred world,” Kurtulmus said.
He said the Islamic world, with a population of nearly 2 billion and control over major energy and transport routes, had significant potential and opportunities.
Kurtulmus called for greater unity among Muslim countries, saying political, ethnic and sectarian differences should not turn into confrontation.
