The Chelsea owner wants to invest in Becks’ plan for a new team in Miami and could pump hundreds of millions into the venture.

The former England skipper is weighing up different investment partners and the Russian billionaire is in the running.

It will cost the ex-Manchester United hunk more than £200million to make his dream of having a team in America’s Major League Soccer a reality.

He and his advisors are narrowing in on a major partner after "vast interest” from the world’s most successful businessmen.

Becks, 40, is aiming to make a decision in the next few weeks and is keen to team up with someone who has experience in owning a sports organisation.

Abramovich, worth £5.3billion, wants to build a dynasty with Becks.

But investors in the Middle East and China are also in the running, including Qatar Sports Investments who own Becks’ old club Paris Saint-Germain – currently 24 points clear in the French league.

A source close to the negotiations said: "The two men have not met to discuss the small print but contact has been made through their advisors.”
