At least 15 detained after unrest in central Buenos Aires
At least 15 people were detained during unrest near the Obelisk in central Buenos Aires following Argentina’s defeat by Spain in the World Cup final, Argentine media reported.
Thousands of supporters gathered near the landmark after the match to show support for the national team, according to television channel TN. The gathering was initially peaceful, but a group later threw stones and bottles at police officers.
Several people also crossed barriers surrounding the monument and were detained. Thefts of mobile phones and personal belongings were also reported.
TN reported that at least 15 people had been arrested and three police officers injured. Newspaper Clarín put the number of injured officers at seven. The reason for the discrepancy was not immediately clear.
