Ice bubbles captured for the first time in promotional video for 4K Sony TV
The remarkable footage - filmed on cameras four-times sharper than standard HD quality - shows a group of children blowing bubbles in a snowy forest. The film, shot in the freezing Canadian forests near Whistler, records the unique process of bubbles crystallising and turning into hollow blocks of ice - without any computer-generated wizardry.Bubbles, blown in the time-honoured tradition of mixing washing-up liquid with water, rapidly freeze as soon as they hit the sub-zero air, before slowly floating to the ground. The icy bubbles are tough enough to be held in a hand, but when they pop, the ice shatters and flies out in all directions.Director Leila de Blinkk, who filmed the ad to promote a new Sony 4K television, said: "We were blown away by the beauty of the intricate patterns that the freezing of the bubbles' surface was creating at very low temperature."The feather, flower and star ice shapes were so delicate and mesmerising when they reflected light."To bring out all these details in 4K was to almost discover a new world that we didn't suspect existed."
The entire range of Sony 4K Ultra HD TVs are available now, priced from around £1,400.
