Pakistan is ready to recognize Armenia as a UN member state in return for backing its accession to the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU), a UN source told TASS on Tuesday.

According to the source, Islamabad expects to reach consensus on the issue, with procedures taking from several weeks to a few months. Another diplomat said the peace treaty signed between Armenia and Azerbaijan had removed obstacles for the move.

On Aug. 31, the foreign ministers of Armenia and Pakistan signed a communiqué in China on establishing diplomatic relations.
