Since 2023, 3.4 million tons of Kazakh oil have been shipped to world markets through the Baku–Tbilisi–Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline, and annual transit volumes may rise to 7 million tons by 2027.

Azerbaijani Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov made the remarks at the 21st meeting of the Azerbaijan–Kazakhstan Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation held in Baku.

Shahbazov also highlighted the strategic importance of the green energy development and transmission project among Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan for regional energy security. A feasibility study will begin after a consultant is selected in November, he added.

The meeting also heard that bilateral trade turnover grew by 50% in 2024 to $470 million, while in the first half of 2025 it surged 4.2 times year-on-year to $501 million.
