Elchin Amirbayov, special representative of the President of Azerbaijan for special assignments, said that economic cooperation is one of the key pillars of Azerbaijan–Netherlands relations. According to him, bilateral trade has been steadily growing in recent years and increased by 35% in the first ten months of 2025, while mutual investments are also on the rise.

Amirbayov made these remarks in an interview with the Netherlands-based English-language monthly The Holland Times. He noted that despite the positive momentum, there remains significant untapped potential for further expansion and diversification of bilateral economic cooperation.

He said the main purpose of his visit to the Netherlands was to further strengthen the current positive dynamics and to discuss future plans and prospects for deepening the partnership with Dutch counterparts. Amirbayov emphasized that Baku and Amsterdam cooperate closely in the energy sector, including increased energy supplies from Azerbaijan to the Netherlands.

He highlighted the active involvement of Dutch companies in projects at the Port of Baku, including port development, shipbuilding, transport logistics and engineering works aimed at enhancing its role as a multimodal transport hub. Future cooperation, he added, is expected to focus on new opportunities to expand the port.

Agriculture and water resource management were also named as promising areas for cooperation. Amirbayov stressed that Dutch expertise in sustainable agriculture, greenhouse technologies and water management could play an important role in strengthening economic ties.

In addition, he pointed to significant opportunities in high-tech sectors and renewable energy, particularly wind, solar and clean hydrogen. Amirbayov also underscored the importance of strengthening cooperation in culture, education, sports and tourism, noting a growing number of Azerbaijani students studying in the Netherlands.
