U.S. recalls ambassadors from dozens of countries, including Armenia

The U.S. administration is recalling at least 29 ambassadors, the Associated Press reported, citing two State Department officials.

According to the report, the diplomats were informed last week that their terms would end in January 2026. All of the ambassadors being recalled were appointed under former President Joe Biden.

Washington’s new diplomatic strategy aims to install officials who fully support President Donald Trump’s “America First” agenda. The State Department said an ambassador is the personal representative of the president, who has the right to ensure that U.S. envoys advance his priorities.

The officials will not lose their positions in the diplomatic service and may return to Washington to take on other assignments if they choose.

The largest number of recalls involves African countries, with ambassadors being withdrawn from 13 states. In Europe, the changes affect Armenia, North Macedonia, Montenegro and Slovakia.
