Margraf to restore former naval yard in Azerbaijan
Italian outfit Margraf has taken on a major project in Azerbaijan to restore a former naval shipyard dating back to the Soviet era.
Located on the Sea Side Boulevard in Baku, the new President Jazz Club is part of a large urban upgrading project, promoted by President Ilham Aliyev, who wants to turn the abandoned post-industrial area into an international conference site for informal meetings with political representatives from all over the world.
The new building has been specially designed and soundproofed so that it can also be used as a venue for jazz concerts.
The work has involved the use of 1,500m 2 of Margraf natural stone and marble. For the exterior, local stone was used, in conformity with the historical and architectural standards for the city; while for the interior, the company's technical office selected Breccia Aurora, a special beige-pink marble, made up of fragments of "oniciata" rock with exposed veining.
Decorative edges were inserted in dark Ebano, a tobacco coloured natural stone with a polished finish. The Ebano is also recalled in the risers and steps of the stairs, in the flooring in front of the entrance of the lifts, and in the bathroom tops.
