Azerspace-1 increases the number of broadcast channels

The number of TV channels broadcast by the satellite telecommunications Azerspace-1 reached 81. A year ago they were 56. According to the official report of the Ministry of Communications and High Technologies of Azerbaijan, this number includes 16 radio channels.

Earlier it was reported that the satellite Azerspace-1 was launched on February 9, 2013 from Kourou in French Guiana. In May 2010, the Ministry signed a contract with the U.S. Orbital Sciences Corporation for the production of the satellite. Also signed was a long-term lease with the Malaysian company MEASAT about using an orbital slot for the satellite communications Azerspace-1.

According to the minister Ali Abbasov, the costs will be repaid in 5-7 years, and over the next 15 years the satellite will bring a net profit.

The total cost of Azerspace-1 is $ 233 million, of which $ 121.7 million was spent on satellite manufacturing, construction of the necessary ground equipment, training and related positions. In addition, $ 93.8 million was spent on launching, $ 17.5 million – on the insurance of the launching of the satellite, the annual operating and other expenses in connection with insurance.

JSC Azerkosmos expects to receive $ 420 million in net profit from the operation of Azerspace- 1.
