Azerbaijan demands explanation from Russia over map showing “Nagorno-Karabakh”

Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry demanded explanations from Russia after Russian state-run Channel One aired a map showing a separate “Nagorno-Karabakh” designation on Azerbaijani territory.

The ministry said the map was shown on May 6 during the programme “Vremya Pokazhet” and called it a “serious provocation” and an “unacceptable political manipulation.”

Baku said Azerbaijan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity had been fully restored and recognised by the international community, including Russia.

The ministry said the broadcast contradicted the spirit of Azerbaijani-Russian relations and the principles of mutual respect.

Azerbaijan expects Russia to provide clear explanations and take measures to prevent similar incidents, the ministry said.
