Latvia bans imports of books, newspapers and toys from Russia and Belarus
Latvia’s parliament has approved a law banning the import of a range of goods from Russia and Belarus, including books, newspapers, video games, sporting goods, toys, clothing and footwear.
The measure is aimed at reducing economic ties with the two countries and strengthening Latvia’s national security.
The ban will remain in force until July 1, 2027. It applies to goods imported directly from Russia and Belarus, as well as products originating from those countries but shipped through third countries. Transit through Latvia to other EU member states will remain permitted.
