Russia points to dramatic collapse in trade turnover with Armenia
06.08.2026 15:30

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk has stated that trade turnover between Russia and Armenia continues to decline sharply, warning that the negative trend is expected to persist.

Overchuk noted that Moscow had repeatedly warned Yerevan in recent years about the risks of shrinking bilateral trade amid shifts in Armenia's relations with the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).

"In 2024, trade turnover between Russia and Armenia reached a record level of around $12 billion. In 2025, it dropped to approximately $8 billion. In 2026, we are witnessing a dramatic collapse — roughly by two-thirds compared to last year. It is obvious that the decline will continue," Overchuk stated.

Meanwhile, official data from Armenia's Statistical Committee for the first half of the year also confirms a notable contraction in bilateral trade. In January–June 2026, trade turnover between the two nations stood at $2.63 billion, down 20.9% compared to the $3.326 billion recorded in the same period of 2025.

Russia's share in Armenia's total foreign trade volume has also dropped, falling from 34.7% in the first half of 2025 to 27.5% in the same period of 2026.
