Norway's King Harald V Dies at 89

King Harald V of Norway has passed away at the age of 89 in an Oslo hospital where he was receiving treatment, the Royal Court announced in an official statement.

"It is with deep sorrow that we announce that His Majesty King Harald passed away today," the Royal Court stated. The monarch had been hospitalized on August 17 due to an infection and complications arising from hemolytic anemia. On August 27, royal officials confirmed that his health had deteriorated significantly and described his condition as critical.

A member of the House of Glücksburg, King Harald V had reigned as Norway's monarch since 1991. The royal throne will pass to his 53-year-old son, Crown Prince Haakon.
