Prosecutor General’s Office opens criminal case into fatal Sheki zipline fall

A criminal case has been launched following the deaths of two visitors who plummeted from a zipline attraction at the "Sheki Yaylasi" recreation center in the Sheki district.

According to the Prosecutor General's Office of Azerbaijan, the case is being probed under Article 314.3 of the Criminal Code (negligence resulting in the accidental death of two or more persons).

Preliminary findings indicate that 27-year-old Ujal Bayramov and 31-year-old Joshgun Mammadzada were using the zipline when a deformation in the supporting metal structure derailed the main carriage mechanism from the cable. The secondary safety tether failed simultaneously, causing both men to fall from a height and die on impact.

Prosecutors inspected the scene and the victims' bodies, ordering forensic medical, technical, and safety evaluations. The investigation is actively reviewing equipment maintenance records and adherence to mandatory safety protocols.
