SK Telecom opens ‘Smart Class’ in Azerbaijan

SK Telecom announced that the company together with Sungshin Woman’s University held an opening ceremony of ‘Smart Class’ in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan.

‘Smart Class’ was set up at the building of ‘WLTY(World League of Turkish Youth)’, a vocational training institution for youth, located in the inter city of Baku. The classroom is equipped with interactive whiteboard and 25 tablet PCs to use in lectures.

To help students best utilize the devices, in particular, SK Telecom and Sungshin Woman’s University developed related contents to provide. The company and the university started by offering basic course for ICT supported by the Ministry of Education of Korea with intent to help the young Azerbaijanis find jobs based on Korea’s ICT and ICT-based services.  

At the opening ceremony, Intiqam Babayev, Deputy Minister of Ministry of Youth and Sports, and Farhad Haciyev, Executive Director of Azerbaijan Youth Foundation under President also attended, demonstrating great interest of the Azerbaijani government in ‘Smart Class’.

SK Telecom and Sungshin Woman’s University formed an industrial-academic partnership and came up with the idea to set up ‘Smart Class’. The plan was submitted and selected for the ‘Global Education Support Project’ held by the Ministry of Education in Korea.

Yook Tae-sun, Executive Vice President and Head of New Business Division at SK Telecom said “SK Telecom is pleased to open the cutting-edge ICT-based ‘Smart Class’ jointly with Sungshin Woman’s University. Starting from Azerbaijan, the company wishes ‘Smart Class’ utilizing Korea’s leading ICT to spread to nearby countries.”

Kim Kyung-hwoi, Dean, College of Education in Sungshin Woman’s University said, “SK Telecom and Sungshin Woman’s University will continue our joint efforts to help the students with ICT-based job training while setting a good example of cooperation between academia and industry across borders.”
